Yahoo Messenger, that popular instant messaging application designed by the Sunnyvale super giant, is again brought in the spotlights thanks to a Mac OS X update rolled
out a few hours ago. In case you're one of those Apple fans out there and you're using Yahoo Messenger, you surely know that the instant messaging software lacks some features. For example, the Mac flavor doesn't provide photo sharing support just like the Windows version in which you can easily show a certain image to a friend by simply dragging it into the conversation window.
So here it is, the Mac OS X fans out there who were using Yahoo Messenger are now able to initiate and receive voice calls, just like on the Windows flavor of the application. Obviously, the PC-to-PC calls are free for all but the instant messaging client also comes with a paying options, namely Phone Out, which enables Mac OS X users to initiate calls to regular mobile phones in every corner of the world for no less than 1 Eurocent, as Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, explained on the official Yahoo Messenger Blog.
As expected, there's a new option in the Preferences menu that allows you to configure this hot function, so it shouldn't be a problem to get it work. "From there you can set what email address should receive your voicemails, what number your calls should get forwarded to, and handy things like whether or not you want iTunes to pause when a call comes in," Sarah Bacon explained.
The voice support for Yahoo Messenger for Mac OS X was one of the most expected features for Yahoo's instant messaging application as the VoIP programs on the web gain more and more popularity. Let's just hope that we won't get a "Yahoo Messenger has quit unexpectedly" error too often…
