Lower price tags for desktop processors

Advanced Micro Devices is preparing to make most of the incoming holiday shopping spree as the manufacturing company is hoping to gain some market share from its rival Intel, by lowering prices for its single and dual core product ranges that were already priced at a pretty low level when compared with similar offerings from Intel.

AMD decided to cut back the price tags from its entire line of Athlon 64 single cored central processing units as well from the dual cored Athlon 64 X2 processors that are aimed at desktop computer systems. Among the price reductions there is even the latest processor from AMD, the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition which was launched just a few weeks ago. According to the news site digitimes, the price cuts are pretty important as they range between 5 and 28 percent.

Most probably these price reductions are also coming as a means to clear inventories before the official launch of the next generation of AMD central processing units, the quad cored Phenom line of products. The Phenoms are expected to come with reasonable high pricing schemes, but knowing the manufacturing company users will find them priced at a much lower level than competing processing solutions from Intel, that sometimes are jumping over the $1000 mark.

Right now, after the latest round of price hacking and slashing, the top of the line Advanced Micro Devices processing unit, the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ is available for purchase for $220, while the entry level dual core unit, the Athlon 64 X2 4000+, comes with a price of just $68.

For users thinking that a dual core central processing unit is overkill in both money and performance level, Advanced Micro Devices also drastically lowered the price tags of its single core line of products. The highest ranking single core CPU, the Athlon 64 4000+, is priced at just $58, while the lowest, entry level offering that comes as the Athlon 64 3500+ costs $45.
