Don’t expect a world of difference, it’s really not that major

Say you’re in a hurry and need to juice up your iPhone as much as you can before you hit the door. There’s a rumor going around that says you can charge the device faster in AirPlane mode.

Yoni Heisler tested the theory and ended up gaining only a few extra percentage points, but he isn’t sure what to put it on.

In my tests I managed to get around 10% more juice in the same allotted charge levels (1% to 25%). For me, charging in AirPlane mode really seems to get the iPhone’s juices flowing.

The device I used was an iPhone 5, whereas TUAW’s editor conducted the test on an iPhone 5s. One has to wonder if this means the iPhone 5 charges faster than the iPhone 5s, but I’ll admit my tests weren’t any more scientific than Heisler’s.

Also worth noting is that I have iOS 7.0.3 installed on this test device, not the newer iOS 7.0.4. I used the phone's original charger, of course (not the computer's USB port).

Go ahead and try it yourself, see how it goes. Don’t be shy to report your mileage in the comments.
