Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo franchise, has big ambitions for the next installment in the racing game, and it seems that gamers will be able to experience a fully simulated version of the official FIA championship.

Details are a little unclear at the moment, but the game creator tells Eurogamer that “I think on Gran Turismo 6 it'll be something like a pre-season series, and it's more realistic to say we'll have the complete series in Gran Turismo 7.”

At the same time, the coming title will have all its real-world tracks certified by the FIA in order to assure gamers that they have been carefully simulated to offer an experience that’s as close as possible to actually getting into a powerful car in order to try and master it.

Kazunori Yamauchi also says that as the organizing body for racing understands what the fan base of the Gran Turismo series can offer in terms of passion, it will allow it to include other official events, as the World Endurance Championship and other competitions that have a dedicated following.

He adds, “It'll be easier. One of the important things for us, it's beyond our expectation how much people in the FIA like Jean Todt don't differentiate between the virtual and the real. They're treating it on the same level.”

Gran Turismo 7 is at the moment in development at Polyphony Digital, and the studio has promised that it will use the extra computing power of the PlayStation 4 to deliver a more realistic racing experience, with better tracks and more cars.

The team has also confirmed that the standard vehicles from the previous installments will still be offered, even if their quality will not be improved.

Polyphony Digital has a long history of creating complex video games that feature a wide variety of cars and tracks, all of them designed to be as close as possible to their counterparts in the real world.

Kazunori Yamauchi is a racing enthusiast who has recently taken part in the 24-hour race at Nurburgring using a Nissan GT-R that included settings based on simulations run at Polyphony Digital using the engine of the racing game series.

Gran Turismo 7 will be launched exclusively on the PlayStation 4, but the title does not currently have an official launch window.

Previous experience with delays at Polyphony Digital might mean that fans will get it no earlier than 2016.
