If you want to take your home entertainment or gaming experience to the next level (or floor), you might want to take a look at this baby. Yamaha's RX-961
receiver will finally surface in May and it will probably suit you especially if you have multiple game consoles, a DVD/VHS combo or a High Definition cable box, all irritatingly string attached.
So, instead of trying to connect all the cables to your TV, you could stuff all the cables into the RX-961 receiver. All you need to do next is connect it to your TV with one cable. What comes in, must come out upscaled in HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), so there's no need to worry if your VHS is going through S-Video or that your Wii is outputting at 480p.
The receiver boasts some ingredients that are found on other Yamaha receivers, such as the YPAO microphone-aided room-setup tool. Next, there's an optional iPod docking station, optional XM satellite radio allowing you to hear over 150 digital channels of music (for the right subscription price of course, there's no Sirius though), HDMI 1.2a which allows it to receive multichannel linear PCD audio, DVD-Audio and SACD (Super Audio CD).
Here's a complete list containing sound and picture specs:
Sound
-7-channel 735W powerful surround sound (105W x 7)
-Digital Top-ART and High Current Amplification
-HDMI Ver.1.2a with support for Super Audio CD
-Pure Direct for high quality sound reproduction
-Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit DACs used in all channels
-Assignable amplifiers for bi-amp connection
Picture
-High-definition video upscaling (480i or 480p to 720/1080i)
-Deinterlacing (480i to 480p) through HDMI input
-1080-compatible HDMI (2in/1 out)
The Yamaha RX-961 A/V Receiver will cost you around $1000.
