The series will still get new titles on PlayStation consoles

Toshihiro Nagoshi, a producer working on the Yakuza series at SEGA, says that the re-launch of the first two titles in the series on the Wii U home console is designed to test interest from the player base and see how the rest of the series might perform.

He says in a video that, “To be honest, we’re not aiming to see if the game will be a smash hit. Our real intention is that we want to see how people respond.”

Nagoshi believes that the typical Wii U user is very different from those who play Yakuza on PlayStation devices.

Apparently, SEGA has no plans to see whether the same franchise has sales potential on the 3DS, because it lacks the power to simulate an entire city and its inhabitants.

Yakuza 1 and 2 will be launched on the Wii U with unique features on the Japanese market.
