The new Yahoo Mail, introduced last December will be the only option

The new, cleaned up Yahoo Mail is becoming the default for everyone. The new version of the popular webmail client was introduced late last year and it's been available to users who wanted to upgrade.

Soon, users won't have an option and will have to upgrade to the new look, though the roll out will be gradual.

Yahoo already announced a spring cleaning, it's shutting down several apps, especially for feature phones. Among those are all the old versions of Yahoo Mail, some of which still work.

"We know change is hard, especially when it comes to your email, and we want to make the transition as smooth as possible. If you are using an older version of Yahoo! Mail for the Web, you will be prompted to switch to the new Yahoo! Mail starting the week of June 3, 2013," Yahoo explained.

As of June 3, 2013, the new "Marissa Mayer edition" Yahoo Mail will be the only option. And, while previously, users still had some way of reverting to older versions, there will be no workarounds this time.

Users either upgrade to the new Yahoo Mail or shut down their account. There is no middle ground. While there will be plenty of people who will complain about this, it makes sense for Yahoo to support just one version moving forward.

For those with slow internet connections or an old browser, there is an HTML-only version of the new Yahoo Mail as well. However, the current Yahoo Mail or even the old Yahoo Mail Classic will be removed.

"If you don't know what version of Yahoo! Mail you are using, don't worry. We'll be contacting everyone using an older version with information about how to switch. And if you decide not to switch, we'll make it easy for you to download and transfer your mail, or close your account," Yahoo added.

While some users always complain about changes and threaten to stop using whatever service they're boycotting that week, this rarely happens. Which is why Yahoo is comfortable giving users the alternative to simply leave, and only that alternative.
