The National Football League and Yahoo have revealed in a joint press release a marriage that will deliver live NFL games via the Web in Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and Africa. The initiative sets a precedent as the NFL is making football games available outside of North America. On Sunday, September 10, 2006, the Internet NFL Game Pass will make its debut.

"We are pleased to offer NFL fans around the world an innovative way to watch NFL games. The NFL is committed to taking advantage of new technologies to bring more value to our fans everywhere and Yahoo!'s proven leadership in technology makes them an ideal partner for a product like 'Game Pass'," said Brian Rolapp, the NFL's vice president of media strategy.

"We are proud to help the NFL deliver the world's most exciting sport to the millions of football fans outside the U.S.," said David Katz, head of sports and studios for Yahoo!. "The global reach and promotional strength of the Yahoo! network enables us to deliver this first-of-its-kind product to NFL fans around the world."

The live game Webcasts will be powered by Yahoo that will stream game content for speeds as high as 700 kbps. The service is available on a subscription basis. Football fans will be able to either watch live game broadcast or download archived content, game by game or in season and weekly packages. The subscription is delivered with two alternative price tags, a monthly fee of $24.99 or $249.99 for the complete NFL season lasting 17 weeks.
