Yahoo isn't satisfied with the Microsoft search deal. The company has been saying that since the days of Carol Bartz, but it's the first time new Yahoo boss, Marissa Mayer, is saying it.
Mayer, who arrived at Yahoo from Google last summer, says the deal is not working out as planned. The idea was to grow the search market share of both Yahoo and Bing, not just trade it like it's happening now.
For many months, Yahoo has been losing market share, mostly to Bing. And, while Bing is growing, most of that growth doesn't come at the expense of Google. Obviously, Yahoo is getting the shortest end of the stick in this deal.
Mayer, speaking at an investor conference, complained about the current state of the Microsoft deal, but didn't say what – if anything – Yahoo is doing about it.
"We need to see monetization working better because we know that it can and we’ve seen other competitors in the space illustrate how well it can work," she said
