Yahoo and the sexual chats

How fair is Yahoo's decision?

Yahoo's decision to shut-down the chat-room initiated by users after they have discovered that some of them were being used to engage minors into sexual conversations caused a lot of protests from organizations that promote the freedom of speech.

The fact that several chat rooms that had nothing to
do with the sexual scandal were also shut-down might seem abusive, but Yahoo's decision was nevertheless the right one.

Yahoo's spokesperson was not able to say how long this measure will last or if users will be able to initiate other chat rooms.

Not even Internet's democratic nature can explain the chat-rooms with names like Girls 13 And Under For Older Guys and Girls 8 to 13 Watch Boy, and the problem can only be solved in one way: by shutting them down.

The Yahoo incident proves that although the company encourages users to report these incidents, a censorship system to prevent this from happening again is also necessary.

All companies that provide such services should take measures to prevent the Yahoo incident from happening again. We agree to the fact that the Internet should be a censorship-free environment, but this doesn't mean the cyberspace should become a place that promotes sexual deviations.
