Yahoo "The 9"

The latest service launched by the online giant
and dubbed "The 9" is meant to quantify and offer to its users the top nine most compelling Web sites, stories or simply online media content of the day. The highlighted features are updated on a daily basis in a video compilation show hosted by MTV U VJ and part time CBS reporter, Maria Sansone.

The new show is a response to a similar initiative from Microsoft that is called "10", but only features company produced videos. While Yahoo may stop at nine, it encourages the viewers to submit the 10th vlog in a segment sponsored by Pepsi. This option is used not only as an advertising method but also to give the user an interactive environment where they can decide on the video segments that have slipped though the Yahoo editing.

"Early each weekday morning, Maria Sansone and the 9 Team scour every inch of the world wide web and find the 9 best, weirdest, and funniest photos, sites, stories, and videos on the 'net. We quickly bundle it all together into a neat, fast-paced, and work-friendly package and try to get it up by about 9 a.m. We implore you, our "viewsers," to vote on the stories you like the best and clue us in to anything you think we've missed -- just go to the Pepsi 10th at right, fill out the info, and click "Submit"!" reads a message posted on the site.
