A Search API Provider is a service that helps you write software solutions using data located on the Internet, allowing you to search for specific information. Because the service tends to be more and more popular, the largest online companies decided to release new solutions that are meant to provide important API information.

Because Google already owns a service like the ones I've mentioned, Yahoo! decided it's time for its personal solution, developing Yahoo! Search Web Services. The new product allows you to write programs using data located on multiple Yahoo services, such as Video Search or Web Search.

"With Yahoo! Search Web Services you can write programs using data from Local Search, News Search, Video Search and Web Search, among others. Our search APIs offer generous rate limits and are based on the REST specification. REST is relatively easy to get up to speed on and to use, no SOAP programming required. Also, with our Site Explorer APIs, you can keep tabs on traffic and usage by querying for the pages in the Yahoo! index and the sites linking into a site. Additionally, we've recently added updateNotification, which you can use to update us of changes to your site," Amit Kumar, Yahoo! Search, said on the official blog.

On the official page of the service it is also mentioned that Yahoo! Search Web Services is available at no cost, requiring just a simple application ID that represents a special string meant to help the company identify your program.

"We support only the Web Services, APIs, and feeds launched officially on the Yahoo! Developer Network site. If you don't find the service or data you are interested in, it's not something we can make available at this time. However, by contacting us, you can cast your vote for this service and help us learn more about what tools will help you. We launch new stuff all the time, so don't give up hope! Your vote counts," Yahoo also mentioned.
