Yahoo has announced a revamped search results page, with a few design tweaks and improvements, aiming for a cleaner page and simpler navigation. The new design is being rolled out to all users.

The redesign covers the main search page, but also dedicated verticals such as Sports or News. The Image Search has been updated as well, after having received a major revamp recently.

"We have been working to unify the search experiences across web, multimedia, and vertical search results pages with a design that is clean and intuitive," Yahoo said.

"Today, we are pleased to bring the latest design changes to life across various search results pages!," it announced.

The interface has been cleaned up a bit. Some graphical elements have been removed, replaced by simple links. Overall, the page looks lighter without feeling spartan.

The big layout change is the new vertical tabs. Switching between Web, Images, Video, News, Blogs, Finance and Sports is done via the vertical tab menu, below the search box and not from the category links on the left sidebar, on from the top nav bar.

Only the tabs that are relevant to any given search will show up. You can access the rest of them from the More menu.

With the categories gone from the left sidebar it is now used exclusively for filters, which help you narrow down your search, and other search tools. The filters displayed are chosen depending on your search and the category you're visiting.

The sidebar is also used to display Related Searches or Trending Searches. In the News category, you'll be able to select the stories coming from a single source.

In the Sports category, a list of related athletes may be displayed in the left sidebar. Relevant videos are shown on the right, above the ads, for both the News and the Sports verticals.
