14 DAY TRIAL // Yahoo has just announced that it has brought its New Digest application launched back in January on iPhone, on the Android operating system. In fact, Yahoo News Digest was only available for iPhone users in the United States and the United Kingdom, but beginning today, Android users will also be able to download it on their devices.
According to Yahoo, the reason it decided for a limited release in just two countries and on just one platform was to “ensure that our audience is ‘in the know’ of the top news and information in the shortest amount of time, all while giving them a sense of completion.”
Given the tremendous positive feedback received in the days and weeks following the release of Yahoo News Digest for iPhone users in the United States and United Kingdom, Yahoo has decided to bring the application to additional platforms and countries.
If you are an Apple fan living in other country than the two mentioned earlier, you will now be able to download and install Yahoo News Digest from the App Store. However, Android users now get to try it out on their devices for the first time and share their thoughts to the developers.
With Yahoo News Digest, users will be offered a summary of all the important news, twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening.
The way the information is provided is kind of unusual, as Yahoo mentions that all the important stories are created from different sources, so users can have as many details as possible.
“Each story is created from multiple sources to present the essential bits and pieces of information, known as ‘atoms’. Atoms are key quotes, images, videos, maps, infographs, and Wikipedia excerpts among others.
These atomic units provide a unique context to the news. Our stories are both algorithmically and hand curated to ensure high quality, and come with a textual summary.”
In Canada, Yahoo News Digest is now available on iOS and Android platforms, along with the International version of the application.
In the rest of the world, only the International version of Yahoo News Digest is available on Android and iOS platforms, in English.
Depending on your location, you can now download Yahoo News Digest for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
