Yahoo News Digest is now up for grabs for all iDevice owners with iOS 7 installed. In addition to the US, UK, and Canada versions of the app, a global edition is now available to everyone on the planet with notifications synced to all timezones and other perks.
“Yahoo News Digest provides a definitive summary of all the important, need-to-know news,” says the Internet giant. “Digests are delivered twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. All the top stories are summarized and presented with the key information that you need to stay on top of what’s happening.”
Stories are presented as “atoms” created from several sources and featuring the essence of the story with quotes, videos, pictures, stock tickers, infographics, maps, and even excerpts from Wikipedia.
“These atomic units provide a unique context to the news. Our stories are both algorithmically and hand curated to ensure high quality, and come with a textual summary,” adds Yahoo.
The Android app was just launched earlier today, while iOS customers are now being offered version 1.2.0, which features the international edition of the Digest, notifications synced to all timezones, a new “Learn More” feature, fixes, and some additional goodies that Yahoo will let users discover on their own. The Canadian edition of the Digest also went live today.
“Yahoo News Digest makes your reading experience comprehensive, effortless, and complete. Our goal is to fully inform you on all the key headlines of the day in a finite and visual manner. We are committed to building the best mobile experience and are interested in your feedback,” the web giant said.
Customers can submit their feedback at https://yahoo.uservoice.com/forums/236000. The app’s interface is currently supported in English only, according to the description on the iTunes App Store.
To download Yahoo News Digest you need iOS 7.0 or newer and a compatible iDevice, such as iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad second generation, iPad third generation, iPad fourth generation, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPod touch fifth generation.
Yahoo today updated two of its other iOS apps as well, including the official Yahoo for iPhone app, with improvements to the news stream, and the Sports app, with an improved soccer experience, coverage for more European soccer leagues, playoff series record to live game pages, and bug fixes.
