Google music has been getting a lot of attention lately thanks to its brand-new music search features. So much so that Yahoo felt the need to underline that it had had somewhat similar features for a while now. In fact, its offering may actually be better than Google's, it certainly looks better, but that didn't look like anyone cared. Yahoo is undeterred, though, and is now introducing a couple of music-related features to its video search engine.

“We know that many of you come to Yahoo! Video search to find entertainment-related information. Our video search traffic also shows us that many of those queries have an exploratory intent, including digging for great work from your favorite music artists,” Manish Sharma and Ishwar Sridharan, Yahoo Music Search, wrote.

“Starting today, you can easily dive into albums and songs by your favorite music artist in Yahoo! Video Search. We have hooked into the 'Web of Things' to intelligently extract the most popular albums and songs for artist or band queries. This feature lets you explore music artists intuitively and easily.”

When searching for bands or artists on Yahoo video search, the left sidebar will be filled with related information and filters. Yahoo uses U2 as an example, for some reason the band seems to be very popular when tying to explain how some sort of music-related web feature or service works. You can't go wrong with U2, probably, they're big enough, so most of the features will work and you're not going to offend anyone by using them.

In any case, doing a search for U2 on Yahoo video will show a list of their most popular albums and songs and tracks in the left sidebar. Selecting an album will show only videos from that album in the results, ordered by their popularity. As with all of the similar search filters on Yahoo, your original search won't be lost and you can go back to it at any point. The feature only seems to be working for the more popular artists, but it does show that Yahoo may have a real shot at providing a better experience just by using an innovating interface.
