Besides free voice conversations with other Messenger users on both Mac and Windows, and cheap PC-to-phone calls, Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 addresses issues with stealth settings, file transfer, mobile settings, and interoperability features, the company says.

Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, states on the Yahoo! Messenger blog: "Today we released an update to Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta. This latest release (version 120437) includes several bug fixes that addressed some nagging issues with stealth settings, file transfer, mobile settings, and interoperability with Windows Live Messenger."

Yahoo's product manager also reveals that the latest version of Messenger for Mac fixes the privacy feature for users wishing to assign individual stealth settings for their friends (pictured above). "So if you want to appear online to everyone but not to your boss Joe, you can set yourself to appear offline to him but online to your friends," she says, although Windows users have been availing themselves of the feature for quite some time. "In addition, Mac users will now be able to add Windows Live Messenger contacts to their Yahoo! Messenger list without any issues. We also fixed a problem that was affecting some file transfer requests," she added.

The really neat stuff available with version 3.0 of the Yahoo! Messenger Beta for Mac is this:

- Free voice conversations with other Messenger users on both Mac and Windows; - Cheap PC-to-phone calls (make calls from Messenger to landline and mobile phones at low rates with Yahoo! Phone Out); - Receive phone calls (take phone calls on your computer with Yahoo! Phone In); - Forward calls and voice conversations to another phone number; - Get voicemail by email.

Yahoo! noted that other improvements to stability and user experience have been added with the latest release of Messenger for Mac.

If you haven't used Yahoo! Messenger for Mac before, requirements call for nothing more than a connection to the Internet, an active (free) Yahoo! Account, and CarbonLib 1.5 installed, if you are running Mac OS 9 or older.
