Although Yahoo Messenger includes a well-developed VoIP communications feature, most consumers prefer to use only the basic text chat which enables them to communicate using typed messages. But the time has arrived and you're now required to try this special Yahoo Messenger function in order to enhance your chatting experience on the Internet. However, the users who already tried the VoIP communication reported several problems with the function, no matter it was the quality of the sound or connection errors.

If the other user's voice can be understood because of the bad quality, it might be from your or his Internet connection because you need at least a 56k modem-based connection in order to communicate without any interference.

"Perhaps they have a bad cold, or they're eating a sandwich? No? If you experience static, choppy voice, or voice delay, it might be due to sub-optimal connection speed," Yahoo tried to explain the problem. "In order for voice chat to work properly, ensure you're using a 56K modem (or faster connection). Sending sound over the Internet requires a lot more bandwidth than sending text."

In order to establish a VoIP connection in a matter of seconds, you can use the 'Open Talk' feature included in Yahoo Messenger. This special feature allows you to connect to another user without pop-up windows asking for your approval. Open Talk doesn't have special requirement as a microphone and a headset is only required when using it.

"Not much. Open Talk merely requires the newest version of Yahoo! Messenger and an Internet connection. Setting up Open Talk doesn't even require a headset, microphone, or speakers. However, actually using it does.To use Open Talk, both you and your friends will need to download the newest version of Yahoo! Messenger," the Sunnyvale company explains.
