Yahoo Messenger Rolls out Cat Emoticons

- Available through a new IMVironment

By: Bogdan Popa, Security and Search Engines Editor

Yahoo Messenger 8.1 and Yahoo Messenger 9.0 Beta have just received a new IMVironment that comes with a brand new pack of emoticons which could be used by
the connected users. Entitled Emoticats, the IMVironment is actually a Yahoo Messenger animation that allows you to choose from several cats portraits and send them to the users you're chatting with. Besides that, you can easily set up one of the cats pictures displayed by the IMVironment as your avatar by clicking on the "Adopt" button included in the chatting window.

And that's not all. If you want to spread the word and let your contacts know about this new Yahoo Messenger IMVironment, you can always click on the "Accept" link displayed by Emoticats. Clicking on it automatically changes your status to "Got My Paws On The Emoticat IMV," attaching a link that lets your contacts load the IMVironment in their own instant messaging client.

As mentioned, this new Yahoo Messenger IMVironment is only available to users of Yahoo Messenger 8.1 and 9.0 Beta, the only versions of the application that currently support IMVironments. However, future releases of Yahoo Messenger for Mac and Yahoo Messenger for Vista may get these features, too.

In case you have problems trying to load the IMVironment, don't forget to check if you've installed the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player. In case you have to download it, you have to install it using Internet Explorer, the Windows default browser. In addition, if you can't find the Emoticats entry in your Yahoo Messenger IMVironment menu, you can follow this link and click on the "Try it now!" button.

If you wish to download the latest version of Yahoo Messenger, no matter if we're talking about 8.1 or 9.0 Beta, you can find it right on Softpedia using this link.
