Yahoo Messenger Gets CAPTCHA Security Feature

The famous instant messaging client Yahoo gets a new security feature that is meant to enhance the chatting experience of the users. Basically, the parent company introduced a new function that can protect the users from annoying bots connected to the chat rooms. If you never met them, then you should know
that they are extremely annoying because they send numerous messages to the connected users without any notification.

They are even talking to you, pretending to be human users and sometimes they even manage to trick you to send messages to them. That's why Yahoo decided to add CAPTCHA protection every time a user joins a new room on Yahoo Messenger. The process is very simple but sometimes it might slow your chatting experience due to the repetitive verification processes.

Let me explain it how it works. When you connect to a Yahoo Messenger chat room, you'll see nothing than an empty room with only one member, codename 'Messenger Chat Admin'. No messages, no users, nothing. The chat window will then provide you a security notification along with a link to check that you're not a bot. Clicking on the link will open a new window requiring you to enter the characters shown in the image. Once the verification is completed, the room will be fully loaded but switching from a chat room to another might become a headache as this process appears every time you connect.

"This new process for entering chat rooms was introduced specifically to ward off the automated bots that have become frequent, unwelcome visitors in our chat rooms. We appreciate your patience as we implement this new feature and hope that it will result in a fun (and less bot-filled) chat experience," Sarah Bacon, Product Manager said today.

ITs technique doesn't work, CAPTCHA is ineffective...

three years later and the CAPTCHA is still in place, even though it's clearly ineffective against spam bots. It's nothing but a nuisance to chatters who are constantly asked to go through the verification process every time they change room. it seriously needs to be flushed.
