Flickr clips supported by YM 9

Following the recent release of Flickr Video, the Sunnyvale-based company Yahoo, also the owner of the photo-sharing service, has updated its internal instant messaging client to support the clips uploaded on Flickr. This means that users of Yahoo Messenger 9 can share their Flickr video straight into the message window by simple copying and pasting the URL. The clip will be fully loaded and display into the chat window, without requiring the viewer to leave the messaging application and open the browser.

The feature was already compatible with Yahoo Video and YouTube but the company expanded the service to include the long-criticized Flickr Video feature. For those of you who missed the news, the new Flickr function has drawn a high avalanche of negative feedback because lots of users stated that a video feature shouldn't exist of a photo sharing service.

However, the implementation of Flickr Video in Yahoo Messenger is clearly a sign that Yahoo is not willing to listen to consumers complaints and to remove the feature but it actually tries to expand it and make it accessible by several ways.

"Last week, Flickr.com announced its new video feature, allowing Flickr Pro users to upload videos and share them online alongside their photos. As a result, we added support for Flickr videos to the inline media player in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta. If you share a Flickr video link or a friend shares one with you, you can watch the video right in the IM window," Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, wrote on the official Yahoo Messenger blog.

If you want to download the latest version of Yahoo Messenger 8, which is said to be the stable release, or the latest beta edition of Yahoo Messenger 9, you can find them right here on Softpedia.
