Yahoo! updated its Android email application less than a week ago, but users complained about the fact that notifications did not work on certain devices and that they were experiencing random crashes.

It appears that Yahoo! has listened to what Android users had to say about their latest Mail app and delivered a new update that promises to fix most of the problems previously reported.

According to developers, the way in which notifications work has been reworked based on users’ feedback. The notification icon has been replaced with a visually distinct icon and a number of crashes have been fixed.

The application’s icon has been fixed for older devices, along with the cut and paste function.

There are some things that still have to be addressed in future updates, such as push notification stability, actions missing on items in spam, outbox and drafts folders, as well as the fact that users are unable to zoom on older devices.

Yahoo! Mail 2.0.4 is now available as a free download via Google Play Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up. Check it out here.

UPDATE: Notifications issues have not been fixed, even though Yahoo! claimed they have addressed this critical issue. Hopefully, they will be able to push another update within the next few days. Stay tuned.

Promises to fix most of the problems previously reported? Didn't fix any of mine. Still no push to the Droid. I hope they're gonna work on it more, and quickly. My home-business depends on it!

Hi, after few months can't get used to the new yahoo mail for android! Beeping notification for incoming mail is the least annoying feature, but the big problem is that I am unable to switch between 2 different accounts on yahoo!!! Sooooo annoying!!! It seems to work on it's own, once allowing me to view msg on another account and another time stubbornly showing only one! I keep selecting the other one but no reaction - its coming back to the same one. Does anyone have similar case???

Yes I have exactly the same problem and this is the first time I have seen it refered to on any forum. Very frustrating, you can choose to change from one account to another but it stubornly sticks with the account you started with. Only sometimes will it open the different account directly from the notifications page... what rubbish

Update did not fix the notification problem. You may want to check your facts.

Well, Yahoo just sent out another update and now I can't get to my Yahoo email from my tablet. I am NOT going to update Yahoo on my cell phone...I need one place at it's working!

It doesn't work. Don't care how fast they fixed it and don't care what they claimed. I only believe it when I see it works. Sigh!

You wrote an article saying the Notification issues were fixed. That is not true. They are hopeless because they can't fix the problem. You are hopeless because you can't get the facts straight. You could have said that "Yahoo claims to have fixed the notification issues," but that is not what you said.

My Yahoo email app was working perfectly...until the update, that is.
Now it wont work at all. I have to force-close to exit the app. I have uninstalled & re-installed: still the same. Samsung Galaxy Tab,

funny how yahoo hires ceo from google (gmail), yahoo turns looks to gmail and totally screws the app for mobile/tablet devices. I updated my gallaxy tab 10.1 and now all I get is a force close every time. What fix are you dreaming about?

This app is terrible yahoo really screwed this thing up. You would think a company as big as yahoo would have the kinks worked out before a new release. Very unhappy with the change and I know I'm not alone on this.

Notifications are still not working on my Droid Razr Maxx HD.

I have put all notifications to silent, which is working for everything, EXCEPT Yahoo mail. I have around 30 mails a day, so it's very annoying to have those notifications coming and coming.

Same problem. 30 notifications a day! Aiieee!

Excellent app! As fast as my blackberry with the mail. Wish I could get some louder notifications cause I am hard of hearing. Also wish I could get rid of the silly Smart Folder- "Files". Just a nuisance.

I have been trying to get my notifications back from yahoo since their Nov.
update. Uninstalled and reinstalled over and over and nothing is fixed. They
do not reply when you e-mail them and Yahoo Care service on twitter gives
you same stupid answers over and over again. Totally worthless and extremely frustrating.

Notification no longer works since new app. Galaxy 3

Comment #15 by: Steve on 28 Jan 2013, 08:43 UTC reply to this comment

Yahoo needs to give users a choice between their older Android app (that worked perfectly) and this new one. They have no right to force their customers to be their beta testers. Whatever good will they thought they would get from a revamped mail app, has been more than erased by the bad will of frustrated users.

Once I give up on Yahoo mail and switch to Gmail I'm gone forever. So are thousands and thousands of frustrated users like me.

Give us a choice.

Google's no better, same issues with no notification after latest update...
Sorry, but it's hard for me to sympathize.
I have BOTH. . .
Imagine that !

I uninstalled Yahoo on my Android and when I went to re-install now I get the following: Unable to connect to server-503 Service Unavailable I don't understand it worked until I changed my password and updated the app

Yahoo is getting left behind.
Too bad they can't stay up to speed with other email providers.
