Upgraded Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! News sites for iPhone and iPod Touch

Yahoo! Inc has just announced the expansion of its mobile products and services through the introduction of Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger apps for Android, in addition to a Yahoo! Search Widget for Google's mobile operating system. At the same time, the Internet giant announced the availability of upgraded Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! News sites for iPhone and iPod touch, which now benefit from HTML5 technology, and which are meant to provide the company's users with a leveraged experience on their mobile devices.

“Yahoo! keeps more than 600 million consumers around the world connected to the people and things that matter to them most – wherever and whenever they want,” said David Ko, senior vice president, Americas, Audience, Mobile, and Local for Yahoo!. “With the availability of our world-class Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger apps for Android and by harnessing the latest in HTML5, we’re making it easier than ever for consumers to access fast, reliable, and feature-rich Yahoo! experiences across some of the fastest growing platforms in the market.”

The Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger applications for Android sport appealing user interfaces, complemented by new functionality, along with a wide range of enhancements specifically added to the package for the Android platform. There are over 300 million Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger users that would be able to benefit from a great communication experience on their handsets, the Internet giant states. According to Yahoo!, both new Android applications are available as free downloads from the Android Market. They can be enjoyed by users all around the world, as long as their phones run under Android 2.0 or higher.

The Yahoo! Search Widget for Android has been designed to offer users the possibility to enjoy one-click access to Yahoo! Search. As soon as Android phone owners install it on their devices, they should enjoy fast access to a Yahoo! Search box on the homescreen. Among the features the solution comes with, we can count voice search, Search Assist for quick suggestions and recommendations, as well as auto-locate technology that would provide users with results relevant to their location. The new Yahoo! Search Widget is available for US owners of handsets based on Android 2.0 or higher. It can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.
