On Wednesday, Yahoo! announced the release of a new solution for mobile phone users, namely Yahoo! Local for Mobile, available now in beta for the owners of an iPhone or of an Android-based mobile phone.

According to the company, the new service was put in place mainly so as to provide users with rich, local content, while providing them with a personalized experience.

As stated above, the solution was released now for iPhone and Android devices. Through Yahoo! Local, users can discover local news, deals, and events, all put together on the same place.

Currently, the Yahoo! Local solution is being tested in a beta version in a number of more than 30 neighborhoods and cities in the U.S..

The list of these areas includes San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Brooklyn, NY as well as Birmingham, Ferndale, and Royal Oak in Michigan.

Here's a list of the main features the new solution comes with:

- Local News and Information – delivering relevant hyper-local neighborhood and city content created by the community, local publishers, and Yahoo! editors as well as content from the best local blogs and newspapers - Saving Money in Your Area – we’re integrating our recently launched Local Offers program to deliver the best locally relevant offers from nearby spas, restaurants and retailers so you save cash while you support local businesses - Powerful Technology – our geo-informatics and content enrichment platforms identify and geo-tag every news story that appears on every page down to the neighborhood level

The new initiative was meant mainly at offering users the possibility to take advantage of the mobile web so as to receive more personalized content on their devices.

In case the beta stage is completed successfully, we might soon learn that more cities were added to the aforementioned list, and that more devices would have access to it.

At the moment, iPhone and Android users can tryout Yahoo! Local through heading here on the browser on their devices.
