If the iOS App Store application isn’t a good enough filter for your application preferences, the folks at Yahoo! have a ‘suggestion’ to make - Y! AppSpot.

Launched this week in tandem with a web based, iPhone-optimized search engine for iOS apps, Y! AppSpot provides users with personalized app recommendations, daily picks based on the apps they already use, and more.

According to Yahoo!, “It's the fast, easy way to discover new apps that are just right for you.”

The web-based tool lets users immediately access categories like Games, Entertainment, Education, Healthcare & Fitness, Social Networking, Productivity, News, Sports, and Books.

It shows all the top rated free apps and paid apps, as well as the newest and hottest additions to the App Store.

As for the standalone app, features include:

• Daily Personal Picks - the application provides new, personalized picks based on the app categories that are most important to the user, on a daily basis.

• Quick Search - quickly locate relevant apps by showing matching app titles, as well as related keywords, all leveraged by Yahoo! search assist technology

• Related Apps - seamlessly continue down a search path by getting results for “more apps you’ll love” on app product pages, further aiding discovery (which should appeal third party iOS devs as well)

• At-a-Glance Shopping - the app lets you see the price, ratings, reviews, screenshots, and description all on one screen

• Fast & Easy Downloads - As if all this wasn’t enough, AppSpot also provides direct links to the specific app pages within the App Store

With the addition of AppSpot, Yahoo! now has a dozen applications for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad to brag with.

AppSpot is compatible with all these devices, although there’s no iPad-optimized version just yet. It requires iOS 4.0 or later to run, and it’s a 4 megabyte download from the iTunes App Store in the Reference category.
