I think all of you admit Google Earth is the most powerful downloadable application that allows users to view satellite maps and other imagery straight from your desktop. Of course, Google Earth attracted users' attention because there is no other famous alternative and no other company announced its plans to design a similar solution. Now, Yahoo intends to challenge the Mountain View-based company with India Maps and India Our City, two products that will help visitors view high resolution photos with most of the Indian cities.

Yahoo India Our City provides instant access to 20 cities from India such as Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and some other locations, NewKerala reported. Yahoo India Maps is somehow more developed because it displays pictures from 170 cities, 4785 towns and 220 villages from the entire country.

"Yahoo Cofounder David Filo acknowledging the contribution made by the India Development Centre for Yahoo globally said that the team in Bangalore ranked on the top of the table compared to other centres in technological development. Nearly 20 per cent of the engineering inputs for Yahoo came from here, he said. Keeping in tune with the growth, the Centre, currently having nearly 1000 developers would now been accomodated into a new facility covering an area of 220,000 sq ft to accommodate 1600 staff, he said," the same source reported.

However, it is extremely difficult to fight with Google Earth and Google Maps because the two search giant's solutions are very powerful and are periodically improved with new tools able to bring the company in the spotlights. For example, Google revealed today a new improvement for Earth by adding two new layers to enable users to view the structures of the most famous building in the US.
