Yahoo has started hosting Premier League video highlights on its online properties in the UK. The company secured the rights for the videos earlier this year. The deal covers the 2010 - 2013 seasons.

UK visitors to the site’s sports section will be able to catch up on all the Premier League matches from the weekend, starting today. All the videos are available over at Yahoo Sport UK and Ireland, a joint-venture with Eurosport.

"Following on from the success of Yahoo!'s World Cup activity with David Beckham, our ambition for Barclays Premier League coverage is for Yahoo! to become your home for football online - whether you're a user or an advertiser," Mark Rabe, Managing Director at Yahoo UK said in a statement.

"Yahoo's Barclays Premier League coverage will deliver for both. For the casual or serious football fan, it's the best bits of the weekend's action -- perfect to catch up on games you may have missed, for sharing with friends and for being part of the conversation at work on Monday,” he added.

The videos will go up first thing on Monday, for weekend matches, and at the same time next day for weekday ones. There will be highlights videos for all matches as well as ‘best-of’ videos. Users won’t be able to embed the clips on other sites, but can share them on Facebook and Twitter.

The previous owner of the rights, Virgin Media, failed to raise too much attention over the videos. Yahoo plans to spend quite a lot of money promoting the feature to both users and advertisers.

Yahoo says that its videos reach about 24 million users in the UK every month, hoping to lure in advertisers. The site has secured some big name advertisers to kick things off including Adidas, Heineken, BT and Sony Pictures.
