Yahoo chairman Fred Amoroso has resigned from his position, the company has announced.

Amoroso took the job as chairman of the Board at Yahoo in May 2012, when Ross Levinsohn was named interim CEO.

He is known for leading the team that investigated Yahoo’s former CEO Scott Thompson for making up some of his credentials. Amoroso also helped bring Marissa Mayer from Google to serve as Yahoo’s new CEO.

“Fred has been a wonderful chairman for Yahoo! over the past year, and I’m personally grateful for his trust and guidance as I took on the role as Yahoo! CEO,” Mayer said in a statement.

She also added that his mentorship has proven truly valuable to her in the first few months in the company.

Amoroso said that he only intended to serve as chairman for a year in order to steer Yahoo through the transition. He’ll keep his position until June 25.

Maynard Webb, Jr. will serve as interim chairman for now. He used to be CEO of LiveOps and COO at eBay.
