Unlike many other tools bought by Yahoo in recent months, this one won't be closing down

Yahoo has acquired another company. This time, it’s Aviate, a tool that replaces the Android home screen launcher.

Aviate is considered to be one of the most impressive launchers in the Google Play Store. The service has been in beta for a while and it’s an invite-only tool. It categorizes all the apps and rearranges the homescreen throughout the day to offer users the apps and info most needed by tracking your usage patterns.

It provides a customized experience for each period of the day, such as the weather when you wake, driving directions on your way to work and so on.

The company promises that nothing will change about its tool. “The technology and product will remain the same – it’s simply going to get better, faster,” an announcement reads.

“When we met with Yahoo, it was obvious how aligned our visions are. Yahoo, like us, is all about simplifying and streamlining users’ daily habits through intelligent and beautiful products. We see endless opportunities for how the two of us can work together. We can’t wait to take this next step,” the folks behind Aviate wrote in a blog post.

For a limited period, those who want to try out Aviate without bothering to wait for a long time can fill out the code “YAHOO” after installing the app. This is on a first come first served basis, as there are only 25,000 spots open.

“Today, at CES, we announced the acquisition of Aviate, a company that shares our vision for simple and intelligent mobile experiences. The Aviate team has created a product that changes the way users interact with their Android devices by connecting them to information at the moment it’s useful. We’re thrilled to share what they’ve built and extend it to our users,” Yahoo wrote in a blog post.
