
Speculations that surround the acquisition will have the online giant move its headquarters to Santa Clara, California. Following expansionist moves from Google and Microsoft, Yahoo too
will add a staggering 2 million square feet of campus space to its existing 1.7 million square feet of building space in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, Calif. For this it will spend approximately 50 million dollars to buy no less than 46 acres of land located between Old Ironsides Drive and Patrick Henry Drive off of Tasman Boulevard in Santa Clara. On the acquisition, Yahoo collaborated with San Francisco-based TMG Partners, and there is a strong possibility that TMG will also supervise the development.
"We are planning for future growth and will analyze several different scenarios over the coming year regarding the development of the property," said Yahoo! CFO Sue Decker.
Yahoo will be joined in the region by none other than Google that is reported to expand on the grounds of NASA's Ames Research Center through building a secondary campus of 1 million square feet. Also Apple Inc. has issued a public announcement according to which it will also build another campus on 50 acres of land in Cupertino.
Yahoo spokeswoman Helena Maus denied the rumors that the company has specific plans for the acquired land and declined to comment on a possible HQ move. ``We looked at a lot of different sites around the Bay Area,'' she explained. "We were looking for proximity to current offices, and most importantly the long-term flexibility for corporate growth."
