I must say that I'm really confused these days when more and more Internet companies are accused of copyright infringement. Take the example of Google that is continuously assaulted with lawsuits filed against the company since the YouTube acquisition when the search giant acquired the video service with $1.6 billion. It seems like the giant portal Yahoo takes the role of Google because the company is now criticized for copyright infringement by multiple
Indian bloggers that sustain their articles were copied by the giant portal.
"Recently Yahoo! India launched a Malayalam Language Portal (along with other Indian languages), but they copied content from many Malayalam bloggers which were protected under Creative Common Licensing. None of the bloggers were contacted and it was a rude shock to us that giants like Yahoo! would do this," GigaOM reported. "The group has been trying to get the problem resolved but they seem be getting bounced from Yahoo Corporate to Yahoo India and around and around. However, Yahoo may not be to blame. The problem may lie with Webdunia, which is a content provider to Yahoo, and might actually have been the one to crawl and scrape the content off these blogs," the publication added.
The issue is quite interesting because Yahoo was not so often sued for copyright infringement as its rival Google that was numerous times accused for publishing videos without approval on its video service YouTube. One of the recent complaints filed against the giant portal concerns multiple Belgian newspapers that sued the company for using their news and headlines without approval. The publications also filed a complaint against Google for the same reason and won the lawsuit because a Belgian court ordered the search giant to remove the content from its news service.
