The Cupertino-based Mac maker has issued updates for users of its high-performance, enterprise-class Storage Area Network (SAN) file system. Priced at $999 per client and per server, Xsan 2.1 includes file system performance and reliability improvements, improved Access Control List (ACL) verification and correction, and more. Xsan Filesystem Update 2.1Besides the above-mentioned additions, Xsan Filesystem Update 2.1 also brings better logging during the RPL stage of the upgrade process, and improved performance and reliability during Controller failover scenarios, Apple says.
Xsan combines performance with ease of use for customers who require scalable, high-speed access to centralized shared data for storage consolidation and workflow in video post-production, data center, broadcast and high-performance computing environments.
The company notes that the 2.1 update is recommended for all systems running Xsan 2. This update includes general file system fixes, as well as specific fixes for metadata controller reliability, using and validating file system Access Control Lists, upgrading from Xsan 1.4. Requirements call for Xsan 1.4.
Xsan 2.1 Admin Update"The 2.1 update is recommended for all systems running Xsan 2," Apple notes. The update includes general administration fixes to remotely administer, configure and maintain Xsan deployments. It includes specific fixes for the following areas, according to the company:
- using SAN Setup Assistant to configure volumes, LUNs and affinities
- changing a computer between client and metadata controller roles
- listing computers connected to the SAN
- visually displaying when LUNs have been truncated
Xsan 2.1 UninstallerThis uninstaller will not only remove Xsan from your computer, but also the Xsan Admin application and documentation files. Users should be careful with this software, and back up all of their data and volumes before completely removing Xsan.
Requirements for Xsan Uninstaller 2.1 and Xsan Admin 2.1 call for Client or Server.
