Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, one of the latest additions to the mobile phone maker's Android lineup, is now listed as available for pre-order in the UK, with an expected release date of August 15th, 2011. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based mobile phone was unveiled to the world only a few weeks ago, but it seems that the handset vendor is already gearing up for bringing it to shelves.

At the moment, UK users interested in acquiring the device can head over to Play.com here, where they will be able to reserve the Xperia ray for £349.99, SIM free and unlocked.

The handset was previously spotted on the UK market at The Carphone Warehouse, with a suggested release window set for August, and chances are that it might indeed arrive on the market as soon as next month.

The mobile phone was unveiled as an affordable addition to the company's Android series, though it does include features and specs that are present with high-end Sony Ericsson Xperia devices as well.

“Sony Ericsson's beautiful Xperia ray mixes cutting edge design, materials and specs to create a phone that is as good as it looks,” the retailer notes.

“From the impossibly thin aluminium frame (9.4mm) through to the fast 1Ghz Processor that's partnered with Google's Android OS; all the Google services you love and access to thousands of Apps.”

The handset sports a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor, along with 512MB of RAM, 300MB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

It comes with a 3.3" Toughened Mineral Glass, a Reality Display with the BRAVIA Engine that can deliver a 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

On the back, the mobile phone sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and support for HD (720p) video recording, along with WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB, 3.5mm headphone jack, and more.

“The Exmor R mobile camera lets you shoot better shots in low light and the Xperia ray's display borrows Sony's BRAVIA technology from their TV's to create vivid, natural colors. The Sony Ericsson Xperia ray is as stunning inside as it s outside,” the retailer also notes.
