14 DAY TRIAL // During an official event in New Delhi, Sony Ericsson has announced the availability of the Xperia arc and Xperia Play smartphones in India.
Famous Indian actress Chitrangada Singh presented both devices, along with Pawan Chadha, CEO of Sony Ericsson India.
Xperia Arc and Xperia Play are available on the market starting this week for Rs. 32,000 (about $725) and Rs. 35,000 (roughly $793), respectively.
However, it seems that both devices can be purchased for a lower price from various authorized resellers.
Currently, Xperia arc is available at Flipkart for Rs. 28,499 ($645), while the Xperia Play can be bought for Rs. 30,999 ($700).
“The Android-based handsets are designed to provide the best multimedia experience to consumers. As social and digital media continues to change consumer experiences, our portfolio will complement this phenomenon, and take communication entertainment to the next level,” said Sony Ericsson India CEO Pawan Chadha at the event.
Xperia arc is powered by a single 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU) and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform.
Its large 4.2-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution is driven by Sony’s Mobile Bravia engine.
Among its most interesting features one can notice a superior 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, 512 MB RAM, a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included), as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity and built-in GPS.
Xperia Play comes with a slightly smaller 4.0-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 854 pixels resolution.
The device allows users to play PlayStation Suite games and is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and image stabilization.
The same 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU) powers the Xperia Play, while the amount of internal memory is slightly higher, 400 MB.
