Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers has just made available for pre-order on its airwaves two new smartphones coming from Sony Ericsson, namely the Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY, both of which were unveiled during the ongoing year with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread

operating system on board.

The two handsets were already known to be on their way to the Canadian wireless carrier, but nothing specific was unveiled until now on their exact landing on shelves at Rogers.

However, Canadians interested in the purchase of any of the two smartphones can now head over to the mobile phone carrier's website here to reserve a unit for when they would become available for purchase.

While having the handsets on shelves as soon as possible is always a great thing, we wouldn't grow our hopes too high, as Sony Ericsson already had to delay their launch in certain markets around the world, and might push them back in other countries as well.

Launched during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is one of the slimmest handsets the company brought to the market, sporting a curved design and being only 8.7mm thick at its thinner point.

The specifications list of this device would include a 4.2 -inch touchscreen display, complemented by an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, or a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The new device would also include support for 3G networks, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, or support for various Google Mobile Services.

As for the Xperia PLAY, it comes to the market as the very first PlayStation-certified smartphone in the world, with a 4-inch touchscreen display complemented by a sliding gamepad with all of the popular PlayStation controls loaded on it.

The smartphone also comes with a 5.1 MP photo snapper on the back, as well as with 512 MB of internal memory, 8GB microSD card included (supports 32GB), Wi-Fi, GPS receiver, and the like.

Xperia PLAY adopters would also have the possibility to download and play specific games available for them through the Android Market, including a series of PlayStation One titles.
