Two weeks ago, at the Mobile World Congress, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile officially announced its latest Android-based flagship handset, the Xperia Z2. It should become available for purchase worldwide before the end of this month with some surprise features attached to it.

According to the latest reports on the matter, Sony is planning on releasing a series of accessories for the device that will provide users with the possibility to charge it wirelessly.

The info comes from UK retailer Clove, which claims to have received initial details on these accessories, but no specifics on what they are all about have been offered as of now.

The online retailer claims that Sony is planning the launch of two products that will enable wireless charging on Xperia Z2, and that they won’t be cheap at all.

One of these accessories will come as the Sony WCR12 Wireless Charging Cover, expected to arrive on shelves sometime in June with a price tag of £69.99 attached to it. Apparently, Sony will launch it in two color versions, namely Black and White.

The second product on the list will be the Sony WCH10 Wireless Charging Plate, which will reportedly feature a cost of £54.99. However, no details on when we might see it on the market have been offered.

While details on the two products are scarce at the moment, there is a possibility that Sony has designed them using the Qi standard, so that they would be compatible with other products out there as well.

As XperiaBlog notes, chances are that Sony will actually lower the price for these accessories closer to launch. Furthermore, should these be Qi-enabled, users will also be able to buy a much cheaper Qi charging plate instead.

Xperia Z2 was unveiled at the MWC as one of the most appealing Android-based flagship handsets, and the availability of wireless charging for it will certainly make it even more appealing than it already is.

The smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a full HD resolution, while being powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM.

Moreover, Sony has packed the smartphone with a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, with support for 4K video recording, as well as with a front camera for making video calls while on the go.

Xperia Z2 lands on shelves with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system loaded on top, as well as with a variety of applications and software features coming from Sony itself, which are meant to differentiate it from other Android devices out there.
