Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is gearing up for the launch of a new flavor of the Xperia Z1 smartphone, and the phone has just made a brief appearance on the vendor’s global site.

Spotted there as the Xperia Z1S, the handset is expected to become available for purchase as the smaller version of the Z1, the latest flagship handset from the company.

No official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, but the fact that Sony has listed the phone on its website suggests that it is the real deal.

Furthermore, it appears that it won’t be too long before we learn specific info on the new smartphone, as Sony could launch it as soon as tomorrow.

As XperiaGuide notes, Xperia Z1S has been spotted online before, and even emerged in leaked press photos, after being launched in Japan under the name of Xperia Z1F back in October.

Sony has already removed the Xperia Z1S listing from its website, but a screenshot that shows it there is available for your viewing pleasure.

The phone will pack a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU when released, along with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 4.3-inch HD screen.

Xperia Z1S is said to run under Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and to pack the same 20.7-megapixel back camera as its bigger brother, along with a front camera for making video calls.

Tomorrow, Sony Mobile should announce the device alongside a new large Android smartphone, codenamed Taichi, rumor has it.

This phone is said to feature a 6-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution, but will land on shelves only as a mid-range device, it seems.

The specs list of the yet unannounced device reportedly includes a MediaTek true octa-core processor, but nothing else is known on it for the time being. Keep an eye on this space for updates.
