Today, Canadian wireless carrier Bell has officially confirmed the upcoming availability of the Sony Xperia Z smartphone on its network starting with this month, although a specific release date has not been provided as of now.

Packing a 5-inch full HD (1080 x 1920 pixel) Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and a 1.5 GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the flagship handset should provide users with appealing performance capabilities while on the go.

Furthermore, it will offer these capabilities in a slim 7.9mm body, which has also been designed to be both dust and water resistant (IP55 and IP57 certification), for increased durability.

"With Xperia Z, we are thrilled to bring a breakthrough superphone to Bell in Canada," said Tim Hernquist, vice president of marketing for North America, Sony Mobile Communications.

"The Xperia Z brings over half a century of Sony innovation to a superphone for an experience that truly stands out."

The mobile phone was launched with 2GB of RAM inside, as well as with 16GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion purposes.

On the back, the handset sports a 13-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, support for full HD video recording, and High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, complemented by a 2.2MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The specifications list of Xperia Z also includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, support for LTE and HSDPA networks, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC, built-in GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors.

Running under Android Jelly Bean, the smartphone comes with a series of exclusive applications from Sony, such as a Battery STAMINA Mode, and will become available for purchase in black, white and purple color flavors.

"With its amazing durability, Xperia Z raises the bar for superphones and Bell is proud to be the exclusive Canadian carrier of this innovative and much anticipated mobile device," said Adel Bazerghi, senior vice president of products at Bell Mobility.

"Combined with the largest LTE network and Bell's Mobile TV, which includes more than 30 news, entertainment and sports channels, Bell and Sony are making the mobile experience even better."
