Japanese handset vendor Sony Mobile is getting ready for the release of an Xperia Z successor this year, and Sony Korea CEO Kenji Sakai is said to have already confirmed plans on the matter.

According to daum.net, he has confirmed that a successor for the flagship smartphone will be launched before the end of the year, but did not provide specific info on the handset itself.

According to techkiddy, however, it is possible that he was referring to Xperia i1, codenamed Honami, which has been long rumored to hit shelves before the end of 2013.

The smartphone, supposedly set to make an official appearance at IFA 2013 in Berlin in September, should pack a 20-megapixel f/2.0 camera, as well as the dust and water resistant capabilities that Xperia Z sports today.
