Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has released its high-end Android-based Xperia X10 smartphone in Canada on the airwaves of Mobilicity.

The wireless carrier announced last week that it was on its way to bring the mobile phone to its network, and now all was made official, with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 available for purchase on the carrier's airwaves with a price tag of $499.99 attached to it.

What should be noted here is that the X10 runs under Google's Android 2.1 operating system right from the start, and not with the Android 1.6 OS flavor loaded on it (Sony Ericsson brought the phone to shelves with this platform version in the beginning).

“The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is the essential Android 2.1 multimedia smartphone. Equipped with Timescape software, managing all your contacts across social networks is a breeze. With an 8MP camera and Mediascape technology you’ve got a multimedia powerhouse right in your pocket,” the company notes.

The specifications list of the new device includes a 4-inch touchscreen display, complemented by a 1 Ghz Snapdragon application processor and an 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED Flash and WVGA@30fps, 720p video recording capabilities.

The new mobile phone also comes with support for 3G HSDPA 900/1700/2100, Bluetooth 2.1 stereo A2DP and Wi-Fi connectivity options.

The hardware specs of the new mobile phone also includes 1 GB of internal memory, 384 MB of RAM, 256 MB of flash memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space (an 8GB SD Card included into the mix).

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 measures 119 x 63 x 13 mm and weighs in at 135g . It packs a battery capable of delivering up to 8 hours of talk time, or up to 425 hours of standby time.
