The owners of a Sony Ericsson Experia X10 handset on AT&T's airwaves would have to wait a little longer before the Android 2.1 software update would be released for their devices, the mobile phone maker has just announced via its Facebook page.

According to the company, the software update was delayed due to the longer testing process that it requires in the United States market when compared to other countries around the world.

“In the U.S., the testing process is especially rigorous, and can take months to complete, which is why we cannot announce the timing for availability of the X10 update in the U.S. It's not that we don't want to; it's that the timing is undefined until such testing is completed,” the company notes on Facebook.

This is not good news for Xperia X10 owners in the country, especially since the mobile phone maker already pushed the software out in various other markets around the world.

The Android 2.1 software update for Xperia X10 started to roll-out on handsets in certain countries in the beginning of this month, tough only for unlocked units.

However, the company also started to push it out to carrier-branded smartphones last week, though it appears that AT&T's customers won't be as lucky as other users out there.

“One factor in determining a software update is when a country first received the handset. The Xperia X10 has been available in some countries since March 2010 and they are also the first to receive the update. The U.S. received the X10 in August 2010 and will receive the update after the initial countries,” Sony Ericsson notes.

However, it seems that this was only one of the factors that determined the delay for this software update, as the technical requirements that the update should meet before it would be pushed out are equally important.

“The second and more impactful factor of the timeline addresses the technical requirements that must be met in order for an update to take place -- no matter which country you live in. Unfortunately, we have no control of that timeline factor,” the handset vendor notes.

“Those requirements are provided to us and we work hard to meet and test them as quickly as we can.”

Unfortunately, no release window for the Android 2.1 software update for Xperia X10 was made available at the moment, and we should wait for another announcement on the matter to be made before learning when would AT&T's users be able to taste the solution.
