Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the first Android-abased smartphone from the Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker, has just got an upgrade to Android 2.1 in two markets around the world, namely Australia and Canada.

In Australia, both the Xperia X10 and the Xperia X10 mini pro got the software update, though it seems that users who bought the devices via wireless carriers might not receive it right away.

Unbranded Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 devices can already taste the new software update in Australia, while those at Optus, Telstra & VHA would receive it in the very near future.

As for the X10 Mini Pro, it already received Android 2.1 at Virgin and Optus (the upgraded devices got the software solution too), and should taste it pretty soon at Telstra & VHA.

According to Sony Ericsson, wireless carriers in the country are already testing the update, and they should release it for their users as soon as possible.

As for Canadians, the said Android 2.1 OS upgrade was announced as already being available for download at mobile phone carrier Rogers in the country.

Some Xperia X10 or an X10 mini users already downloaded and installed the software solution on their devices, and they report successful upgrades.

For those who are not familiar with what the OS update brings on Xperia X10 devices, here are some of the main changes: - HD video recording, 720p MPEG-4 - Send files via Bluetooth - New additional applications will be available in Market - New Backup and restore application - Multiple Google accounts - Quick contacts - Live wallpapers - Five wallpaper/standby screens - Improved screen lock - Timescape is updated and improved

Sony Ericsson launched the Xperia X10 on the market in early 2010 with Google's Android 1.6 OS on board, and promised the Android 2.1 update ever since.

The company pushed back the release of this software update a few times before, but it started to roll-it out to its users a few weeks ago, and it appears that things are moving forth pretty well with the update.
