Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced in early 2010 the launch of two new handsets powered by Google's Android operating system, the Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro, both successors of the high-end Xperia X10. The Xperia X10 mini is already available for purchase in the UK, and those interested in making a purchase can now head over to Expansys to have it for £249.99 SIM free. In addition to the X10 mini, the online retailer also has the X10 mini pro listed on its website, with an expected release date of June 28, and with a price tag of £259.99 attached to it.

Both the Sony Ericsson X10 mini and the X10 mini pro come with a wide range of features similar to the high-end Xperia X10. The mobile phone maker might have been a little late to the Android party, but it certainly did its best to make things right. In case the X10 handsets seem too much to some, there is always the Xperia X8, the latest Android-based device from Sony Ericsson, which was meant for the mass market, it seems.

The specifications list of the two new phones shows a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset running at 600Mhz, a 2.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that boasts a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, LED Flash, Geotagging and video recording capabilities, FM Radio, 128MB of internal memory coupled with a microSDHC memory card slot for additional storage space to be added into the equation, as well as WiFi (802.11 b/g), HSDPA (7.2Mbps), Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB connectivity, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

At the same time, the phones also come with support for MP3, AAC, eAAC+ & OGG audio files and MP4, 3GP video files, with AGPS, Web Browser, Office Document Viewer, Google Maps, the Timescape Interface, and the Android 1.6 operating system on board. The main difference between the handsets is that the Xperia X10 Mini Pro features a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, while the Xperia X10 Mini doesn't. The phones can be seen on Expansys' website here and here, for the mini and mini pro versions, respectively.
