Owners of a Sony Xperia S smartphone who are willing to tweak the software on their devices can now get a taste of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform release, courtesy of a CyanogenMod 10 Alpha build available for them.

The ROM, coming from Team Free Xperia, comes with all the basic phone functions working, along with Wi-Fi, data and Bluetooth capabilities.

However, as any alpha build, the software still has a lot of caveats, including the fact that the camera is not working just yet.

Xperia S was launched earlier this year with Android 2.3.x on board, yet Sony already delivered the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for it.

No specific info on when Jelly Bean will officially land on this device has emerged so far, but the CyanogenMod 10 builds, which are unofficial updates, could easily land in users’ hands earlier.
