The smartphone will probably be sold unlocked and SIM free

Unveiled back in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony Xperia S is currently shipped worldwide to carriers and retailers.

This means that the smartphone will hit shelves in various regions in the following days. Sony Xperia S has yet to be confirmed in Canada through one or more carriers.

However, it looks like the the handset recently appeared on Sony's Facebook page with the Rogers logo. The folks over at MobileSyrup found out that the Xperia S first stop will be Rogers.

There's more to it as MobileSyrup got an email from Rogers PR department that confirmed the smartphone will work on their network but they won't be selling this one directly.

It is also worth mentioning that all links that led to this Rogers Xperia S pictures have been removed, which means that the smartphone won't be coming at the Canadian major carrier, or at least not anytime soon.

This doesn't meant that the Xperia S won't be available in Canada as rumor has it that Sony plans to offer this smartphone directly through its official stores. In this case it's possible Xperia S will only be available unlocked, but it will work on most Canadian carriers' networks.

Sony Xperia S will be shipped in Canada with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform out of the box, but the it has already been scheduled for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon after launch.

The smartphone is equipped with a powerful dual core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor clocked at and an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit.

The Xperia S boasts a stunning scratch-resistant 4.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution. It lacks a microSD card slot for memory expansion, but offers 32GB onboard memory and 1GB of RAM.

Another strong point of the smartphone is the impressive 12-megapixel rear camera, which featurs LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.
