Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has recently announced that its Xperia Pureness handset is now available for purchase in the US via Saks Fifth Avenue online and through Sony VIP Shopping Service via email at [email protected]. The handset comes to the market with a transparent liquid crystal LCD screen, and with a rather leveraged suggested price tag: $990.

According to the handset vendor, the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness phone comes as an alternative approach to life in the context of the digital age. It is meant to “refine the mobile phone to its most essentials functions - Talk. Text. Time.” The handset comes with all the essential features of a device, while eliminating all that is unnecessary in form and function, the company also notes.

The new device sports keys that light up only when touched, and it also includes call and message notification features. At the same time, it offers users the Pureness concierge service, a truly localized global concierge service that provides “support for all lifestyle requests through a 24 hour service in cities around the world for almost any type of need.” Moreover, Sony Ericsson says that Pureness has been designed towards an open debate on the relationships people have with technology. The company even put in place a website where users can comment on simplicity and modernity.

“We are very proud to be launching such a beautifully designed phone with premium retail partners Sony VIP Shopping Service and Saks Fifth Avenue and we're looking forward to delivering many more exciting new phone concepts from our Xperia brand,” said Stacy Doster, head of PR for Sony Ericsson North America. Denise Incandela, president of Saks Direct commented “We love to offer our customers beautiful, high-quality products and Sony Ericsson's Xperia Pureness phone embodies the sophisticated type of technology our fashion customer appreciates. We're excited to be the exclusive retailer launching the phone in the US.”
