Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, the first PlayStation-certified mobile phone in the world, is now available for purchase via Amazon Wireless for only $0.01 with the signing of a contract agreement.

The mobile phone was launched on the United States market only several weeks ago on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless, and features a full retail price tag of $599.99.

Unveiled to the world during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Xperia PLAY runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and pairs a touchscreen display with a sliding gamepad.

Not only would the handset offer a great smartphone experience courtesy of its fast 1GHz application processor complemented by Adreno 205 graphics and the large 4-inch touchscreen display, but it can also provide users with impressive gaming.

“A full-featured Android mobile phone, the Xperia PLAY by Sony Ericsson for Verizon Wireless is also the world's first PlayStation certified smartphone - providing the ultimate mobile gaming experience,” Amazon notes.

“Get your game on with the high-res 4-inch multi-touch screen and slide-out game pad, which reveals a directional keypad, dual analog touch joystick, two shoulder buttons, and the four iconic PlayStation symbol keys--circle, X, square, and triangle.”

Xperia PLAY sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, as well as a front-facing camera for video calling.

It packs 3G connectivity with support for Verizon's CDMA network, as well as built-in WiFi Mobile Hotspot with support for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices, Bluetooth connectivity, and built-in GPS receiver.

The mobile phone measures 4.68 x 2.44 x 0.63 inches and weighs in at 6.17 ounces, with its 1500 mAh lithium-ion battery packed inside. It can offer up to 7.7 hours of talk time, or up to 16+ days of standby.

Xperia PLAY comes with an 8GB memory card included in the package, but can offer support for up to 32GB of external storage, so that users can carry around their favorite photos, videos, music and games.
