Sony Ericsson's first PlayStation-certified gaming powerhouse

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia PLAY gaming powerhouse is set to arrive on shelves at AT&T, adding support for the wireless carrier's 4G network into the mix, and featuring a price tag of only $49.99 with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

The PlayStation-certified gaming device runs under Google's Android operating system and features a slide-out pad with the usual PlayStation controls on it.

Starting with September 18th, AT&T's customers will be able to purchase the new device from the wireless carrier's webstore, as well as from all AT&T brick and mortar stores around the country.

The new mobile phone features a large 4-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 854 pixels resolution, stereo speakers, and an exclusive 'stealth blue' color on AT&T's HSPA+ network.

Moreover, the new mobile phone will come pre-loaded with a series of mobile games, including:

- Dungeon Defenders Second Wave by Trendy Entertainment - Asphalt 6 Adrenaline by Gameloft - Star Battalion by Gameloft - Madden NFL 11 by Electronic Arts - The Sims 3 by Electronic Arts - Tower Bloxx: My City by Digital Chocolate - Crash Bandicoot by SCEA/Naughty Dog/Universal.

The specification list of the new mobile phone includes a fast 1GHz application processor, along with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, 1GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot to expand it by up to 32GB, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, and GPS receiver.

It runs under Google's Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) operating system and features the Facebook inside Xperia application from Sony Ericsson, aimed at keeping users in touch with their friends and family at all times.

The Xperia PLAY 4G also arrives at AT&T with a series of bonus accessories, such as the Sony Ericsson Multimedia Dock DK300 and MC100 music cable.

“AT&T customers will have access to more than 150 Xperia PLAY optimized games including Minecraft Pocket Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Dead Space 2 for download and purchase through the 'Get Games' recommender screen, easily accessible when you slide open the Xperia PLAY's game controller,” the wireless carrier announced.
