Xiaomi has mighty big plans when tablets are concerned

Xiaomi is big in smartphones, that we already know. Their products have a reputation of selling out in mere seconds and for this reason Xiaomi has been nicknamed China's Apple.

But Xiaomi is also taking aim at the tablet market. After countless rumors and speculation, the Xiaomi MiPad has finally been rolled out into the wild. Some have called it the most blatant iPad mini / iPhone 5c clone to have ever graced the market, but the company isn't really listening to all this negative talk.

According to a report coming to us via DigiTimes, the company’s CEO Lei Jun revealed they have plans of building a solid tablet ecosystem, one that will be able to compete with Apple’s mighty iPad tablet offering.

The company isn't yet ready to do that, as this is a pretty big goal, which will take some time to achieve.

Xiaomi already launched the tablet in China and managed to sell 50k units in just 4 minutes. The company isn't bringing the tablet on the US market for the time being, because it deems it too competitive.

But the company did say it was making plans to introduce its first smartphones in the country in 2015, but failed to say anything about the tablet, although we could assume the MiPad won’t be missing from the lineup.

To win over Android users, Xiaomi might want to challenge the malware and clone infested Google Play Store and take up the creation of a standalone one. However, no other company has managed to achieve this. Just take a look at LG's, which lacks in diversity, or Samsung’s one, which doesn't bring anything exciting to the table.

Anyway, in related news the first batch of pictures taken with the MiPad’s camera has been posted online and they look quite nifty.

Tablets aren't known for their photographic capabilities, but companies like Nokia and Sony tend to break the trend. And by the looks of it, the MiPad doesn't perform bad in this department either.

The tablet arrives with a main 8MP camera with 2.0 aperture, which is quite decent when compared with what’s being currently offered on the market.

The frontal camera is a 5MP selfie shooter and you can check out the sample below, although we can’t brush over the fact that the girl taking the selfie looks mighty polished (the camera can't be that good). Or maybe she just discovered a stellar foundation.
