Soon after taking the wraps off of its new Redmi Note smartphone, Chinese mobile phone maker Xiaomi has also announced that the phone will be released in various countries out there starting May, this year.

The handset will be launched only in China in the beginning, starting March 26, but users outside the country won’t have too long to wait for it to become available for them as well, it seems.

Redmi Note was unveiled as the successor of Xiaomi Redmi, which was initially known as Hongmi and which has only recently been released in more countries besides China.

However, the company has decided to make a different move with the new phone and will have it available in more markets worldwide sooner rather than later.

In fact, Hugo Barra, VP, Xiaomi Global, has already posted on Google+ that the handset is scheduled to be released in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore in May. Other markets will receive it at a later date, he also said.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the mobile phone was announced in two different configurations, but that it will remain the same cheap device that people have been expecting it to be.

Xiaomi has unveiled Redmi Note with a 5.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution, while being powered by an octa-core MTK6592 chipset.

As for the aforementioned two configurations of the device, one will land on the market with a 1.4GHz CPU inside and 1GB of RAM, while the other will feature a 1.7GHz processor and 2GB of RAM.

Regardless of which flavor users choose, they will still enjoy dual-SIM with dual-standby capabilities on the device, along with a 3200mAh battery that should offer about two days of usage time.

Moreover, Xiaomi Redmi Note arrives on the market with a 13-megapixel camera on the back, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, as well as with a 5MP front camera for making video calls and taking great selfies.

The mobile phone will also feature various connectivity capabilities inside, such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and built-in GPS receiver, as well as the full set of usual sensors.

Xiaomi has announced plans to make the smartphone available in said countries with a price tag of $129 attached to it for the 1.4GHz model, and priced at $159 for the 1.7GHz variant.

As can be seen from the specs list above, the phone actually packs features that can be found in mid-range phones today, while its pricing stays well below them.

What remains to be seen is whether the company will manage to meet demand for the phone once it is put up for purchase, something that it did not manage to do right from the start with the predecessor.
